General Information about Teteven

Teteven is very beautiful small town in the municipality of Lovech. The town is located in a mountain area between beautiful hills and has a crystal air. Near Teteven flows and the beautiful river Vit. The good location of the town gives easy access to all points of the country. Teteven is on only about 110 km or 1 hour and 30 minutes by rental car away from the capital Sofia. Teteven has very good climate – it is cool in summer. Thanks to the clear air and picturesque nature, the town has great conditions for recreational tourism. For the last few years a lot of visitors choose the town for their relaxing holidays among the mountain hills. Teteven is one of the most beautiful cities in Bulgaria. It has breath taking landscape. The area around the town has been ihabited since ancint times. The evidence for that are the discoveries and artifacts found there. In the area have ruins of fortresses, ancient roads, thracian tombs and many others. The contemporary town has been established between 11th and 14th century. Teteven has rich historical past. There could be visited many tourist monuments. The feast of the town is celebrating on 1st of November.

Teteven has a lot of different sites combination of few beautiful mountain tops, the river of Vit and authentic traditional architecture. There are a lot of monumets which have preserved the traditional Bulgarian atmosphere since the ages. Other interesting sites are:

Historical Museum

The exhibition of the museum contains a few different themes: archeological, Revival and ethnographic. The historical museum of Teteven has been established in 1911.

The monastery Glozhene of St. George

The monastery is situated in extremely beautiful area on only 12 km from Teteven. It is considered that it has been established in 1224, but it is not proved yet. The area around is great for walks among the nature. The monastery of Glozhene offers and accommodation, but it doesn`t provide food.

The monastery St. Iliya

It is considered that the monastery has been established about 11th century, but it is not proved. Nowadays the monastery is involved in the borders of Teteven, and there is no any monks. On the walls were painted murals.

The cave Morovitsa

It is one of the biggest caves in Bulgaria. There have been found a lot of objects since the ancient time from the primitive people. The cave is considered as a tourist site in 1962.

Cave Saeva Hole

The cave has been examined for the first time in 1883. It is considered that Saeva Hole is one of the most beautiful caves in the country. The cave includes 5 halls. The cave is arranged in 1967.
